Four words. They started underneath a logo. Then they became the entire point.
OFF ROUTE. ON PURPOSE.
It's not an instruction to get lost. It's not about ignoring a map.
And it definitely doesn't mean wandering somewhere you shouldn't be.
For us, it means something simpler.
Don't always choose the obvious
Life is extremely good at giving us routes. Home. Work. School. Supermarket. Home again. Monday becomes Friday surprisingly quickly. Then Friday becomes Monday even faster. Technology makes everything more efficient. Maps find the fastest road. Algorithms tell us what to watch. Apps tell us where to eat. Useful? Absolutely. But occasionally it's worth choosing for yourself.
Take the long way
Take the scenic road. Stay another night. Walk past the obvious viewpoint. Put the phone back in your pocket. Let the kids get muddy. Make coffee outside. Stop the car because somewhere looks interesting. Change the plan because something better appeared.
Off Route isn't a location. It's a mindset.
That's what those four words mean to us.
There doesn't always need to be a destination
We're constantly trying to arrive somewhere. Even leisure has become optimised. Complete the walk. Reach the summit. Tick off the attraction. Get the photograph. Drive home. What if you don't?
What if you stop halfway because you've found somewhere brilliant?
What if you don't climb the mountain because sitting beside the lake turns out to be better?
Nothing terrible happens. You might even find something.
That's the brand we want to build
UNROUTED will make things. There will be gear. There will eventually be plenty for us to show you.
But we want everything carrying the UNROUTED name to come back to one question:
Does it make spending time outside better?
Does it earn the space it occupies? Would we actually take it ourselves? If the answer is no, we probably shouldn't make it. Because we don't want to build a catalogue of stuff. We want to build things that become part of the journey. Wherever yours takes you:
Take the long way occasionally.
See you out there.
